The Black Hundred
The Black Hundred was a reactionary, ultra-nationalist movement in late Imperial Russia during the early 20th century, especially around 1905-1917. Comprising primarily conservative nobles, clergy, and monarchists, they strongly opposed revolutionary ideas and were known for their violent anti-Semitic actions and support for the autocratic Tsarist regime. The Black Hundred aimed to preserve traditional Russian values and the existing social hierarchy. Their activities included attacking minority communities, protesting against reforms, and supporting censorship. They represented a backlash against modernization, democratization, and social changes, contributing to political tensions that led to the Russian Revolution.
