J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson was an American singer and songwriter best known for his hit song "Chantilly Lace." He was part of the 1950s rock and roll scene, recognized for his energetic style and distinctive voice. In 1959, he tragically died at age 28 in a plane crash that also took the lives of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, an event famously called "The Day the Music Died."
