The Benn Act
The Benn Act, officially known as the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2019, was designed to prevent the UK from leaving the EU without a deal. It requires the UK government to seek a new delay if it hasn't approved Brexit by a certain date. Essentially, it aims to give time for further negotiations or decisions, ensuring the UK doesn’t exit abruptly or without a plan. The Act emphasizes parliamentary oversight, ensuring that the government cannot bypass the law to trigger a no-deal Brexit unilaterally.
