The BBC Trust

The BBC Trust was the governing body responsible for overseeing the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) until 2016. It ensured the BBC operated independently, maintained high standards, and served the public interest. The Trust set strategic priorities, approved budgets, and monitored performance. It also handled complaints and ensured accountability. Since 2017, the BBC’s governance shifted to a new unitary board, with the Trust being replaced, to provide more direct oversight and modernization of the BBC’s management and operations.
