The Battle of Passchendaele

The Battle of Passchendaele, fought between July and November 1917 during World War I, was a major campaign on the Western Front. It aimed to gain control of the Belgian village of Passchendaele and the surrounding area. The battle is notorious for its horrific mud, heavy casualties, and difficult conditions. Allied forces, primarily British and Canadian troops, faced fierce German resistance. Ultimately, they secured Passchendaele, but at the cost of over a quarter of a million casualties.
