The Battle of Naseby
The Battle of Naseby, fought on June 14, 1645, was a significant conflict during the English Civil War between the Royalists, led by King Charles I, and the Parliamentarians, commanded by Sir Thomas Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell. The battle marked a turning point, as the Parliamentarian victory decisively weakened the Royalist forces. About 24,000 soldiers engaged, with the Parliamentarians employing better tactics and discipline. The defeat led to the capture of key Royalist commanders and shifted the momentum toward Parliament, ultimately contributing to the downfall of King Charles I and the rise of a more republican form of government in England.
