The Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as Custer’s Last Stand, took place in 1876 in Montana. It was a confrontation between the U.S. Army, led by General George Custer, and a coalition of Native American tribes including the Sioux and Cheyenne, who opposed U.S. efforts to force them onto reservations. The Native tribes, united and resisting encroachment on their lands, decisively defeated Custer’s forces, killing him and many soldiers. The battle symbolized Native resistance against U.S. expansion and had lasting impacts on U.S.-Native relations and policies.
