The Battle of Kosovo

The Battle of Kosovo took place on June 28, 1389, between the forces of the Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and the Ottoman Empire led by Sultan Murad I. Fought on Kosovo Field, both sides suffered heavy losses, and the battle ended in a stalemate with significant casualties. It marked a turning point in the struggle between the Christian Balkan states and Islamic Ottoman expansion. Although not a decisive victory, the battle is symbolically important in Serbian history, representing resistance against foreign rule. It set the stage for the gradual Ottoman domination of the region in the following centuries.
