The Battle of Franklin took place on November 30, 1864, during the American Civil War, near Franklin, Tennessee. It was a fierce fight between Union forces, led by General Jacob D. Cox, and Confederate soldiers under General John Bell Hood. The Confederates launched a massive, frontal assault on the Union defenses, resulting in heavy casualties, including many soldiers in costly hand-to-hand combat. The Union forces held their ground, but the battle was extremely costly for the Confederates, hurting their army significantly. It marked a turning point, weakening the Confederacy's ability to resist Union advances in the Western Theater.
