The Battle of Alexander at Granicus

The Battle of Granicus was a key early conflict in 334 BCE between Alexander the Great’s Macedonian army and the Persian Empire, near the coast of modern Turkey. Alexander’s forces faced a large Persian army led by local satraps (governors). Despite being outnumbered, Alexander’s tactical skills and boldness allowed his troops to win, opening the way for his campaign into Persia. The victory boosted his reputation and demonstrated his ability to lead and adapt in combat, marking the beginning of the successful conquest that would eventually empire-build across Persia and beyond.
