The base-10 system

The base-10 system, also known as the decimal system, is a way of counting and representing numbers using ten digits: 0 through 9. Once you reach 9, adding one more digit increases the number in the next place value (the tens place), so 9 + 1 becomes 10. Each position in a number has a value based on powers of 10, with the rightmost digit representing ones, the next representing tens, then hundreds, and so on. This system is widely used because humans naturally have ten fingers, making it intuitive for counting and calculations.
