The Barrage
A barrage is a type of dam built across a river or estuary, mainly to control water flow, manage floods, generate hydroelectric power, or support navigation. It typically consists of a series of gates or sluices that can be opened or closed to regulate water levels. Unlike traditional dams, barrages don’t necessarily block the entire flow of the river but instead help manage water movement and improve water availability for cities, agriculture, or industry. They are important infrastructure for managing water resources and protecting communities from flooding while supporting economic activities.
