The Auxiliary Territorial Service
The Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) was the women's branch of the British Army during World War II, established in 1938. It enabled women to serve in non-combat roles such as clerks, cooks, drivers, and radar operators, supporting the war effort. The ATS allowed women to contribute directly to military operations, freeing men for front-line duties. It played a significant role in logistics and communications, helping the UK mobilize its resources efficiently. In 1949, the ATS was integrated into the regular British Army as the Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC).
