The ARDSnet Protocol
The ARDSnet protocol is a medical guideline used to treat patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), a condition where the lungs can't provide enough oxygen. It focuses on using lower tidal volumes (smaller breaths) during mechanical ventilation to prevent further lung injury, and carefully managing the amount of oxygen given to avoid damage from high oxygen levels. The goal is to support breathing while reducing inflammation and damage to the lungs, improving chances of recovery. This approach has been shown to improve survival rates and outcomes for ARDS patients.
