The Aqua Regia

Aqua regia is a strong corrosive liquid composed of concentrated hydrochloric acid andnitric acid, typically in a 3:1 ratio. It can dissolve noble metals like gold and platinum that are resistant to most acids. The name, meaning "royal water," reflects its ability to dissolve these precious metals. When mixed, the acids produce reactive chlorine and nitrate ions, creating a powerful solution capable of breaking down metals that don't normally react with acids. Due to its aggressive nature, aqua regia must be handled with care, using proper safety equipment, as it can produce toxic fumes and cause severe burns.
