The Alliance for Progress

The Alliance for Progress was a U.S. initiative launched in 1961 aimed at improving economic and social conditions in Latin America. The program sought to foster economic cooperation, promote social reforms, and combat poverty and inequality through investments in education, health, and infrastructure. It was a response to the rise of communism in the region, as the U.S. aimed to strengthen democratic governments and prevent extremist ideologies. The Alliance encouraged partnership between the U.S. and Latin American countries, highlighting the importance of development and political stability in fostering a prosperous and secure hemisphere.
