The Allende Government

The Allende Government was led by Salvador Allende, a Chilean democratic socialist, from 1970 to 1973. He aimed to reduce inequality through land reforms, nationalize industries like copper, and expand social programs. His presidency faced economic challenges, social divisions, and political opposition, leading to tension with the military. In September 1973, a military coup overthrew Allende, resulting in his death and the start of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship.
