The Alberta Carbon Trunk Line
The Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL) is a large-scale pipeline system in Alberta, Canada, designed to capture and transport carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from industrial sources, such as oil sands operations and ethanol facilities. The captured CO₂ is then transported through the pipeline to nearby oil fields, where it helps enhance oil recovery and, ultimately, reduces the amount of CO₂ released into the atmosphere. This infrastructure supports Alberta’s efforts to lower greenhouse gas emissions, promote cleaner energy practices, and improve environmental sustainability while maximizing resource extraction efficiency.
