The Ainu

The Ainu are an indigenous people native to parts of Japan, primarily Hokkaido, as well as portions of Russia. They have a distinct language, culture, and spiritual traditions that differ from the majority Japanese population. Historically, the Ainu relied on hunting, fishing, and foraging, with rich oral traditions and unique rituals. Although their population declined due to assimilation policies, recent efforts aim to revive and preserve their cultural heritage.
