The Agadir Crisis

The Agadir Crisis of 1911 was a diplomatic conflict between France and Germany over Morocco. Germany challenged France’s expanding influence there, sending a warship to the Moroccan port of Agadir as a show of power. This move threatened to escalate tensions between the two nations and the wider European alliances, increasing fears of war. Ultimately, diplomatic negotiations led to Germany accepting concessions elsewhere, preventing direct conflict. The crisis highlighted the fragile balance of power in Europe and contributed to the tensions that eventually led to World War I.
