The Afghanistan War

The Afghanistan War began in 2001 when the U.S. and allied forces launched a military effort to dismantle terrorist groups, mainly Al-Qaeda, responsible for 9/11. They aimed to remove the Taliban government that sheltered these terrorists and establish a stable government. The conflict involved widespread military operations, nation-building efforts, and counterinsurgency tactics over two decades. Despite initial successes, insurgency and political instability persisted. The U.S. withdrew in 2021, leading to the Taliban reconquering much of the country. The war reflects complex challenges of combating terrorism, nation-building, and balancing military and diplomatic strategies.
