The ABC Model
The ABC Model is a way to understand how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. “A” stands for the Activating event—something that happens. “B” is our Belief or interpretation about that event. “C” is the Consequence, which is how we feel or behave as a result. For example, if you miss a deadline (A), you might think you’re incompetent (B), leading to feelings of shame or procrastination (C). The model shows that changing our beliefs can influence how we respond to events, helping us develop healthier reactions.
