The 1949 Parliament Act

The Parliament Act of 1949 limited the powers of the House of Lords, the UK's unelected upper chamber, to delay legislation. It reduced the Lords' ability to veto bills passed by the elected House of Commons by allowing it to only delay most legislation for up to a year, instead of indefinitely. This change strengthened the dominance of the elected House of Commons in making laws while maintaining some oversight from the Lords. The Act aimed to streamline the legislative process and ensure that elected representatives have the final say on most legislation.
