The 1916 Rising

The 1916 Rising was an armed rebellion in Ireland against British rule, led predominantly by Irish nationalists seeking independence. On April 24, 1916, Irish volunteers and rebels took control of key locations in Dublin, proclaiming an Irish Republic. Although the uprising was quickly suppressed with significant violence and loss of life, it galvanized public support for independence. The event marked a pivotal point in Ireland's struggle for self-rule, ultimately leading to the Irish War of Independence and the establishment of the Irish Free State.
