The 1715 Rising

The 1715 Rising, also known as the Jacobite Rebellion, was an attempt by supporters of James Stuart (the Old Pretender) to restore him to the British throne after he was excluded following the 1707 Act of Union. Taking place mainly in Scotland, the uprising aimed to overthrow the ruling Hanoverian monarchy, led by King George I. Although it gathered some support, the rebellion was eventually suppressed, ending in a defeat for the Jacobites. This event reflected ongoing tensions between Scottish, Scottish Highland, and English loyalties, and the desire among some to restore a Stuart monarchy.
