Th17 cells

Th17 cells are a specialized type of immune cell that help protect the body against infections, especially bacteria and fungi. They produce signaling proteins called cytokines, like IL-17, which activate other immune cells and promote inflammation at sites of infection. This inflammatory response helps eliminate harmful microbes but must be carefully regulated to prevent damage to the body's own tissues. Th17 cells play important roles in defending against pathogens and are also involved in certain autoimmune conditions where the immune system attacks healthy tissue.
