Th1/Th2 hypothesis
The Th1/Th2 hypothesis describes two different pathways our immune system uses to respond to threats. Th1 responses target intracellular pathogens like viruses and certain bacteria, promoting inflammation and activating cells to destroy infected material. Th2 responses focus on defending against parasites and are involved in allergic reactions, encouraging antibody production. The balance between Th1 and Th2 responses influences immune health—if skewed, it can contribute to diseases such as autoimmunity (Th1 dominance) or allergies (Th2 dominance). Understanding this balance helps in managing and treating immune-related conditions.
