Texas Legislature
The Texas Legislature is the state's lawmaking body, composed of two chambers: the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate. Together, they create, amend, and pass laws that govern Texas. The Legislature meets biennially for 140 days, with special sessions as needed. Members are elected by voters—state representatives serve two-year terms, and senators serve four-year terms. The Legislature also oversees the state budget and has the authority to approve or reject other government actions. Its primary role is to craft laws that address issues like education, healthcare, transportation, and public safety for Texas residents.
