Texas Independence

Texas Independence refers to the event in 1836 when Texas declared itself separate from Mexico. Originally part of Mexico, Texas settlers and Tejanos sought self-governance due to cultural differences, local laws, and Mexico’s centralizing policies. After conflicts like the Texas Revolution, which included famous battles such as the Alamo, Texas proclaimed independence and established the Republic of Texas. This period lasted until 1845, when Texas joined the United States. The move was driven by a desire for self-rule, economic opportunity, and protection of settlers’ interests, shaping Texas’s identity as a distinct and independent region before becoming part of the U.S.
