Emperor Tewodros II, who ruled Ethiopia from 1855 to 1868, was a passionate leader known for attempting to unify and modernize the country. He sought to strengthen central authority and introduce reforms, but his efforts faced resistance from regional rivals. His reign was marked by efforts to recover Ethiopia’s independence and stability during a time of internal conflict. Ultimately, Tewodros’s stubbornness led to his downfall when British troops defeated him in 1868, and he died during this confrontation. Despite his tragic end, he is remembered as a national hero who fought to modernize Ethiopia and assert its sovereignty.
