Tevhid-i Tedrisat Law

The Tevhid-i Tedrisat Law, enacted in 1924 in Turkey, unified the country’s education system under the central government. It abolished private and religious schools’ independence, integrating them into a single, state-controlled system. This law aimed to modernize education, promote national unity, and reduce the influence of religious authorities on schooling. Essentially, it centralized educational authority to ensure consistent, secular education across Turkey, reflecting the new nation’s commitment to modernization and secularism after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
