Testosterone Production
Testosterone production primarily occurs in the testes in men and the ovaries in women, with small amounts produced by the adrenal glands in both sexes. The process starts when the brain releases a hormone called GnRH, which signals the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH). LH then stimulates the testes or ovaries to produce testosterone. Testosterone plays a vital role in developing male characteristics, maintaining libido, and supporting muscle and bone health. Levels vary with age, often peaking in early adulthood and gradually declining thereafter.
