Testicular Torsion

Testicular torsion is a medical emergency that occurs when a testicle twists around the spermatic cord, cutting off its blood supply. This usually happens suddenly, often during physical activity or sleep. Symptoms include severe, sudden pain in the scrotum, swelling, and nausea. If not treated quickly, typically within six hours, it can lead to permanent damage or loss of the testicle. Immediate medical attention is crucial, and treatment usually involves surgery to untwist the cord and secure the testicle in place to prevent future occurrences.
