Testicular sperm extraction (TESE)

Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE) is a procedure used to retrieve sperm directly from the testicular tissue when a man has difficulty producing sperm in his ejaculate. During TESE, a surgeon removes small tissue samples from the testes in an outpatient setting, which are then examined in a lab to find viable sperm. These sperm can be used immediately or stored for later use in procedures like in vitro fertilization (IVF). TESE is commonly performed for men with conditions such as non-obstructive azoospermia, where sperm production occurs but is not present in the semen.
