Testament (legal)
A testament is a legal document that outlines how a person wants their assets and possessions distributed after their death. Often referred to as a will, it identifies heirs, specifies gifts, and may name an executor to manage the estate. A testament can also address matters such as guardianship for minor children. To be valid, it typically must be written, signed, and witnessed according to state laws. Having a testament ensures that a person's wishes are respected and helps prevent disputes among family members regarding the estate.
