Test-tube baby

A "test-tube baby" is a baby conceived through a medical procedure called in vitro fertilization (IVF). In this process, an egg is extracted from a woman's ovaries and fertilized by sperm outside her body in a laboratory. Once the fertilized egg, or embryo, develops to a certain stage, it is placed back into the woman's uterus to develop naturally. This technique helps couples facing fertility issues conceive a child. Despite the name, the actual baby develops inside the mother's body, not in a test tube, but the initial fertilization occurs in the laboratory setting.
