terrestrial planets

Terrestrial planets are rocky planets with solid surfaces, composed mainly of metals and silicate rocks. In our solar system, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are terrestrial planets. They are characterized by their dense, metal-rich interiors and relatively small sizes compared to gas giants. These planets have rocky crusts, mountain ranges, craters, and atmospheres that vary in thickness and composition. Their solid surfaces allow for the presence of landforms and often have potential for supporting life, especially Earth. Terrestrial planets are closer to the Sun and have fewer moons than the larger gas giants.
