Terre Adélie
Terre Adélie is a small, French-claimed territory on the Antarctic continent, situated along the coast of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet. Named after the wife of French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville, it covers about 432,000 square kilometers. The area is primarily ice-covered, with limited research stations and wildlife such as penguins and seals. As part of the Antarctic Treaty System, Terre Adélie is dedicated to peaceful scientific research and environmental protection, with no permanent residents. Its harsh climate and remote location make it a unique site for scientific studies related to climate change, glaciology, and oceanography.
