Terpenoid Compounds

Terpenoid compounds are a large and diverse class of organic molecules naturally found in many plants, fungi, and some insects. They are responsible for a variety of biological functions, including scent, flavor, and defense mechanisms. Terpenoids are made from five-carbon building blocks called isoprene units that link together in different ways, creating a vast array of structures. Many important substances, like the aromatic oils in herbs, medicinal compounds such as menthol, and the active ingredients in cannabis, are terpenoids. They play significant roles in nature and have applications in flavors, fragrances, and pharmaceuticals.
