Tenskwatawa (The Prophet)
Tenskwatawa, known as The Prophet, was a Native American leader and spiritual figure of the Shawnee tribe in the early 19th century. He promoted a resurgence of traditional Native American beliefs, urging his people to reject European-American customs, alcohol, and trade influences. He believed that restoring their cultural and spiritual practices would bring strength and unity. His teachings inspired a religious revival, called the Tecumseh Movement, which sought to resist American expansion and preserve Native land and identity. Though he suffered setbacks, Tenskwatawa was influential in fostering Native resistance and cultural revival during a tumultuous period.
