Tenant Farming
Tenant farming is a system where a person, called a tenant, rents land from a landowner to grow crops or raise livestock. The tenant pays the landowner either with a fixed rent or a share of the produce. This arrangement allows farmers who might not own land to farm and earn an income without the significant costs of land ownership. It was common in the past, especially in the southern United States, and often involved complex relationships and economic challenges for tenants, who had limited control over their farming operations.
