Tenancy at Sufferance

Tenancy at sufferance occurs when a tenant remains in a property after their lease has expired, without the landlord’s permission. Essentially, the tenant stays without a valid legal agreement, even though they have no right to be there. The landlord typically has the option to either evict the tenant or accept their continued presence as a new, informal tenancy. This situation is different from other types of tenancy because it arises without a new lease and is considered a form of wrongful possession.
