Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) refers to problems affecting the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. This joint connects your jawbone to your skull, allowing you to speak, chew, and yawning. TMJ can cause pain, clicking or popping sounds, limited jaw movement, headaches, and facial discomfort. It may result from injury, arthritis, teeth grinding, or misaligned teeth. Treatment options include stress management, physical therapy, dental corrections, and, in some cases, medication or dental appliances. Most cases improve with appropriate care, though persistent issues may require more comprehensive interventions.
