Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) ankylosis is a condition where the jaw joint becomes fused or stiff, often due to injury, infection, or arthritis. This fusion limits or prevents normal jaw movement, making it difficult to open or close the mouth fully, speak, or eat comfortably. It can cause pain, facial asymmetry, and breathing problems in severe cases. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the fused tissue and restore joint movement, possibly combined with physical therapy to regain normal function. Early diagnosis and intervention are important to prevent further complications.
