Templars (Christian military order)

The Knights Templar was a medieval Christian military order founded in 1119, initially created to protect pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem. Members were both monks and soldiers, vowing vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. They became renowned for their discipline, combat skills, and financial expertise, establishing a vast network of banks and holdings across Europe and the Holy Land. The Templars played key roles during the Crusades and in medieval finance. Their popularity declined in the 14th century amid accusations of heresy, leading to their dissolution by King Philip IV of France in 1312.
