Teletype

A teletype, or teletypewriter, is an electromechanical device that allows text to be transmitted over long distances. It works like a combination of a typewriter and a communication device, sending and receiving typed messages through telegraph or telephone lines. When a user types a message, the teletype encodes it into electrical signals and transmits it to a remote teletype, which then prints the message onto paper. Historically used in news agencies, military, and early computing networks, teletype machines helped facilitate real-time text communication before modern digital systems.
