Tektite I
Tektite I was an early experiment in underwater human habitation conducted in 1969 by NASA and the U.S. Army. It involved two scientists living inside a sealed aluminum capsule submerged on the ocean floor near Florida for nearly 58 days. The goal was to study how humans adapt to long-term life in extreme environments, similar to space missions. Researchers monitored their health, collected environmental data, and tested life support systems. Tektite I provided valuable insights into human endurance, environmental control, and safety systems in underwater habitats, laying groundwork for future space and research station projects.
