Tehuantepec Isthmus
The Tehuantepec Isthmus is a narrow strip of land in southern Mexico that connects the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean. It is one of Central America’s narrowest points, about 200 kilometers wide, and has historically been a crucial route for trade, transportation, and cultural exchange. Its strategic location has made it significant for both indigenous peoples and modern infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, and proposed pipelines. The region is characterized by tropical forests, wetlands, and diverse ecosystems, and it plays an important role in Mexico's geography and economy.
