Tegetthoff

Tegetthoff was an Austrian admiral and naval officer best known for leading the Austro-Hungarian Navy’s flagship, SMS Tegetthoff, during World War I. Named after Admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff, a 19th-century Austrian naval hero, the ship and its commander symbolized Austria-Hungary’s naval ambitions in the Mediterranean. The Tegetthoff-class battleships were among the most powerful pre-dreadnoughts of their time, designed to project power and defend Austria-Hungary’s maritime interests during a period of tense European rivalry.
