Tecumseh (battleship)

The USS Tecumseh was a U.S. Navy steam-powered armored cruiser launched in 1904. Named after the Native American Shawnee leader, it was designed for long-range patrols and protecting American interests overseas. In 1905, it set a record for the fastest Atlantic crossing by a U.S. cruiser. Its design featured heavy armor and powerful guns, making it capable of both combat and showing the flag globally. The Tecumseh served mainly in U.S. waters and overseas missions until its sinking in 1917, when it struck a mine during World War I, resulting in a tragic loss of life.
